Aftab Pureval is the son of first-generation parents who came here from India. His mother is originally from Tibet. Aftab grew up in Dayton, Ohio before going to law school in Cincinnati where he worked to protect battered women. He has also served as a federal prosecutor and as an attorney at Procter & Gamble. In 2016, Aftab became the first Democrat in 100 years to be elected as the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts. He is one of two Indian countywide elected officials in Ohio.

Aftab is running for Congress because he believes that Washington is broken and needs real reform -- the kind of reform that Aftab brought to the Clerk's office. In his first term, Aftab has ended nepotism, cut waste, added new services, and still saved taxpayers nearly $1 million. This bi-partisan approach to running an office and showing how government can work for all people is what Aftab plans to do in Washington. In Congress, Aftab will fight to fix the rigged economy, stand up for working families, protect access to health care, and be an advocate for women's rights. While Aftab did not intend to run this year, he was motivated to stop Donald Trump and the Congress that enables him.
